This Rotur Universal Pen Turning Mandrel Support fits MT1 (Morse Taper 1) lathes. It supports the end of your pen mandrel in the tailstock, helping to prevent the mandrel rod bending, which is the cause of many pen turning issues.

Why support the mandrel
Pen mandrels are thin, and if the end is unsupported or pushed too hard by the tailstock the rod can flex or bend. That leads to out of round blanks, chatter and poor fitting parts. A dedicated support holds the end of the mandrel accurately on centre.
Tips
- Bring the tailstock up just enough to support the mandrel, without heavy pressure.
- Check that your headstock and tailstock are aligned; a lathe alignment tool makes this easy.
- Replace a bent mandrel shaft rather than trying to straighten it.
