Why a brad point bit
A brad point drill bit has a sharp centre spur that locates the bit before the outer edges start to cut. It helps the bit start exactly where you want it and gives a clean entry hole in wood.
Drilling a pen blank
- Check the drill size in your pen kit instructions, as tube diameters vary between kits.
- Hold the blank securely in a pen blank drilling vice or a chuck on the lathe, so the hole runs straight down the centre.
- Drill a little deeper than the tube length, glue the tube in place, then square the ends before turning.
