Sycamore for Your Next Spindle Turning
Bring your own designs to the lathe with Sycamore Spindle Blanks. With a choice of two cross-sections and two lengths, you can select timber to suit your planned spindle project and shape it into your own combination of curves, beads and decorative details.
From laying out your design to sanding the finished profile, the blank gives you scope to make something individual. Keep the shape simple to showcase the natural grain, or explore more detailed spindle work for a piece that reflects your own style.

Plan Your Project
Choose a blank with enough width and length for your intended finished piece. Allow for the material removed when turning the square blank into the round, shaping and sanding, together with the length needed for your chosen workholding method.
The 3-inch cross-section provides more room for wider profiles than the 2-inch option, while the two lengths help you match your stock to shorter or longer designs. Check your measurements and plan any cuts before preparing the blank.
Natural Timber, Individual Results
Each piece of timber is different. Grain patterns, colour and natural markings vary from blank to blank, making the wood's individual character part of your finished turning.
These variations are part of working with natural timber, so separate blanks should not be expected to match exactly in appearance.
