Description
Bottle Stopper Mandrel
The Bottle Stopper Mandrel is held in your chuck jaws to give you a secure hold on your bottle stopper blank whilst you turn it to shape. Pre-thread the blank with a tap before using the mandrel.
Specification
- Use: holding bottle stopper blanks on the lathe
- Mounting: held in chuck jaws
- Blank preparation: pre-threaded with a tap
- Code: DBSM
How to use it
Drill the blank, then cut a thread with a tap such as our bottle stopper / shaving brush tap. Grip the mandrel in your chuck, screw the blank on, and turn it to shape. The threaded hold lets you work the whole top of the stopper in one go.
Why use a stopper mandrel
Holding a short blank securely can be awkward. A threaded mandrel gives a firm, centred hold with the end of the blank free, so you can shape and finish the top without a tailstock in the way.
Ideal for
- Wine bottle stoppers
- Other threaded projects such as shaving brush handles
