This allows you to back off the clamp screw just enough to rotate the vice for access to any part of a workpiece without releasing it from the jaws. Additionally, the vice can be lifted from its heavy pivot post and re-installed horizontally (either side up), maintaining the same pivoting and locking functions. This vice has long been a favourite of luthiers and model makers alike, the functionality making it so convenient to use. The jaws are 87mm wide, 57mm deep and open to a maximum of 127mm. Holes in the jaws allow you to mount custom-made wooden jaws. The base has 3 fixing holes on 120mm centres. The cast iron construction is carefully machined and the total weight is 7.5kg. The jaws have an intentional ‘toe-in’ for maximum pressure transfer - the jaw is tilted inwards. Because the force/pressure is perpendicular to the toe-in angle this feature, found on many woodworking devices and clamps, helps to avoid the problems of racking (the tendency of the wood and the bar to bend upwards when under pressure).
